1947 Tenor Saxophone SELMER Paris Super Action (SBA) #34214, silver-plated, Raw Classic

Here we have yet another hidden gem from our “Raw Classics” series: a SELMER Super Action—also known as “Super Balanced Action” or “SBA” for short—manufactured in 1947 at the SELMER factory in Mantes-la-Ville near Paris.

Already equipped with several convenient features—such as those we’ve come to expect from modern saxophones starting with the SELMER Mark VI, for example, tone holes on the right hand side offset by approximately 15° relative to those on the left—the SELMER saxophones in this series are highly sought after, as they combine the beautiful richness of the SELMER Balanced Action with a slightly more centered tonal core that already points toward the Mark VI.

The SELMER Super Action (SBA) was produced for only a few years (approx. 1947–1954), so the SELMER SBAs available on the market are correspondingly rare and expensive!

We are all the more delighted to be able to offer you this SELMER Super Balanced Action tenor saxophone with serial number 34214 in its current condition today! Its current condition is still quite decent: the S-bend is flawless and has not been bent or dented; the body and knee are in their original shape (there are only 3 small dents that can be easily removed with minimal effort); only the rim of the bell was damaged and dented in the past (it could still be refinished to look a bit nicer!). The silver plating is still quite well preserved (approx. 80%). Only on the inside of the body is there a larger area where the plating has worn off; otherwise, there are only minor spots where the silver plating is no longer present (see photos).
