We’ve had this special Mark VI tenor saxophone in our collection for several years, and we have finally completed a full overhaul. Naturally, this former professional instrument received a SAXOPHONIC premium overhaul, using French CHANU pads. We equipped it with INOX metal resonators, just like SELMER used on early SBAs and Mark VIs.

This SELMER Mark VI tenor saxophone also comes with a remarkable history: it was played for decades in the WDR Orchestra (WDR = West German Broadcasting).

We are often asked about original lacquer (more information here: https://legendary-saxophones.com/en/original-relaquered/. With this 1965 Mark VI, we can say with a high degree of certainty that it features the authentic SELMER finish, because during the 1965–66 production years, a finish was used that becomes brittle after a few years: tiny hairline cracks form, giving the surface a sort of “glitter” appearance. We therefore call this finish “glitter finish.”

After our complete overhaul, this tenor sax now plays really well again, and from the very first note, I can tell that this Mark VI was played professionally for many years. It has a beautiful, open tone and develops its full brilliance without much pressure.
